The Advantages of Online Resume Databases

There was a time when applying for a job was not as convenient as it is now.

It used to be that applicants would print many copies of their resume. And then they would go to Makati or Ortigas to submit them to as many business establishments they could cover in one day.

Sometimes you could have an interview and a test on the same day but most of the time your resume just end up with the guard. Then they just call you if they think you are qualified.

Nowadays we have Online Resume Databases like JobsDB, JobStreet, Workabroad.ph, and of course our database http://jobsopen.rrjm.com or http://apply.rrjm.com.

You can still do it the old way or you can just submit your resume to as many online resume databases as you can.

The advantage of this method is that, it is very convenient. You save time and money because you won’t have to commute. And it is also very accessible. Most homes nowadays have Internet connection. If you don’t have one, Internet Cafe’s are usually just a few blocks away. You can even submit your resume using your smartphone. That is if you don’t mind the small screen.

When you are looking for a job, you often wish you have an insider information about the possible job openings in a company. Most of the time you won’t know because companies don’t often publish all their job needs. If they do publish, a hundred applicant have already beaten you to a job.

Submitting your resume to an online resume database is like having an insider information because as soon as companies have a need, they first look in their own resume database.

Sudan Prohibits Foreign Housemaids

There has been a recent news that Sudan prohibits foreign housemaids in their country. If you are not familiar with Sudan, it is a country located northeast of Africa. It is the largest African country and tenth largest in the world by land area.

It is okay to work there as engineers, teachers, or construction workers. But be warned incase someone is trying to recruit you as housemaid.

You can read the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) public advisory here: Paalala sa mga nais magtrabaho sa Sudan bilang kasambahay.

Overseas Filipino Workers and the Philippine Economy

Compared to our Asian neighbors the Philippine economy is one of the slowest. Year after year the country constantly run a trade deficit.  In layman’s term, this means we import more goods than we export them.  Which also means more money goes out of the country  than the money that goes in.

This is bad. If you can imagine a person spending more than he can produce that person will eventually go bankrupt.

And so that is the direction the Philippines finds itself if not for the OFWs.

An OFW typically leaves the Philippines to seek work abroad not to live comfortably in another country, but instead so that those left behind can live comfortably or atleast sustain their needs.

This is the original intent and as an accidental consequence the country has also benefited.

During the international financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 saw many industrial countries  greatly affected.  Miraculously, the Philippines economy remained stable.  And if you look back the Philippine peso always seem to appreciate during the months of December. This was attributed to the influx of dollars coming from abroad.

You can refer to http://www.gocurrency.com/ to check the historical data.

That’s how powerful OFW remittances are.

It is not easy being an OFW. It involves a lot of sacrifices not only for the family but for the country.  But until those left behind can lift the GDP by means of local activity, the country will have to rely on Filipinos abroad to give the economy a little push.
